The Chandelier Site:The replica chandeliers in the House and Senate are based on an 1890 photograph and a brief description in the 1889 furnishing specifications for the Capitol. A lighting expert studied the two images for over a year before determining the fixture’s original configuration and construction. The construction and installation of the chandeliers took 18 months. Because of the size and complexity of the fixtures, components were built sequentially. Each new part was fitted into the partially constructed fixture before the next piece was made.
